A gold drip cake instantly elevates any celebration. Whether you’re decorating a birthday cake, luxury celebration cake, or custom client order, a gold drip adds drama, elegance, and that high-end bakery look. But if you’ve ever attempted one and ended up with dull gold, uneven drips, or messy streaks, you know it’s not as simple as it looks.

The secret to a flawless gold drip cake is layering, timing, and using the right materials. In this post, I’ll walk you through my exact process so you can create smooth, metallic gold drips that look intentional, polished, and professional every time.

#1 Make your drip

On a chilled cake, pour melted Ganache and allow to drip on the sides of the cake. Refrigerate until completely set.

(You can also use White Chocolate Ganache or Royal Icing)

Chocolate Ganache will give the Gold a deeper more metallic color.

#2 Make Gold Paint

⚜️ Add Gold Luster Dust to a small bowl
⚜️ Slowly add clear alcohol until you get a paint-like consistency

(You can also use Lemon or Almond Extract)

💡 Pro Tip: Use more luster dust than liquid for a bold, metallic finish.

#3 Paint & Decorate!

Using a Food-Safe Paint Brush, paint the gold onto the ganache. Make sure the ganache is well chilled and fully set before painting.

Apply 1–2 coats if needed. Let the first coat dry before adding more.
