Learn how to stack a 2-tier cake like a pro with our easy-to-follow tutorial! We’ll guide you through supporting, doweling, and securely stacking each layer, ensuring a perfectly balanced and stunning cake for any occasion. Perfect for beginners and seasoned bakers alike!
Mark on the bottom tier cake, the size of the top tier to use as a guide for placing your supports.
Start with the Center support. Place a Bubble Straw directly in the center and cut so that it is leveled with the cake.
Take the cut piece and use it to cut the rest of the straws to the same height. This will ensure the cake will be sitting leveled on the bottom tier. I recommend using at least 5-6 straws total if stacking a 6" Cake on top of an 8" or larger.
Carefully stack the cakes. I recommend working with Well Chilled Cakes as to not ruin the Buttercream. This is best achieved by using real butter in your Buttercream Recipe. Check out more Cake Tips.
Place a dowel shorter than the height of the cake into the center of the top tier, through into the bottom tier. Take another dowel and use it to push the first dowel all the way down, and use a hammer to lightly tap the dowel into the cake board. This ensures the cake tiers are secured when traveling. (You don't want the top tier to go flying off in the car)
Fill or cover the hole on the top of the cake with buttercream or decorations. And there you have it! You have successfully stacked a 2 Tier Cake!
